This year the top of a pedestal was occupied by a supercomputer of Sunway TaihuLight which has bypassed the last year's leader of "Tyankhe-2" in computing capacities almost three times. Up to this point the Chinese Tyankhe-2 COMPUTER headed the list three years in a row.
Computing capacity of Sunway TaihuLight makes 93 petaFLOPS (93 quadrillion operations per second) against 33.8 petaFLOPS of "Tyankhe-2". Titan closing the three of leaders from the USA can brag of capacity only in 17.6 petaFLOPS at all.
What is still remarkable, Sunway TaihuLight developed by the Chinese national research center of computer facilities and technologies consists of 10.65 million computing kernels made within the country, but which were not purchased from the largest foreign companies. Same "Tyankhe-2" is based on processors from Intel. However since April, 2015 the USA has forbidden sale of high-productive chips to China, having motivated this decision with interests of a homeland security.
According to the same list, now China wins first place in the world by quantity of supercomputers. In the territory of Celestial Empire them 167 units while in the USA - 165 are counted. Though in 2001 in a rating of "500 most powerful computers in the world" there was no the COMPUTER from China.
